Ombudsman accepts EUROMIL invitation to attend 101st Presidium Meeting in Berlin

On foot of an invitation from Mr. Emmanuel Jacob, President, European Organisation of Military Associations (EUROMIL), the Ombudsman for the Defence Forces, Ms. Paulyn Marrinan Quinn S.C. attended their 101st Presidium Meeting which was held in Berlin from 18th March to 21st March 2010.

EUROMIL is the umbrella organisation of European national military associations and trade unions. It promotes and represents the social and professional interests of about 500,000 European, soldiers of all ranks and their families. The organisation consists currently of 38 associations from 26 European countries. EUROMIL is the main Europe wide forum for the cooperation and exchange of experiences among professional military associations on issues of common concern.

The Ombudsman accepted an invitation to participate as an expert to the panel during the “The need for a European Military Ombudsman” workshop. Joining Ms. Marrinan Quinn on the Panel was Mr. Reinhold Robbe, outgoing Parlimentary Military Commissioner for Germany and Mr Joerg-Dietrich Naclmayr, advisor to past President of the European Parliament – Hans-Gert Pöttering. In December 2009, at the 8th Congress for European Security and Defence, Mr Pöttering had called for the creation of the Office of a European Military Ombudsman.
